## Season 1 event: The great hunt

Mars is currently hosting its grandest hunting event yet, running from January 1st to February 28th. With a prize pool of **6,000 WAX**, hunters can compete in three categories: Highest Bounty Collected and Most Bounties Collected each offer 2,000 WAX, while a special MVP Newbie category (chosen by Lama) provides an opportunity for fresh-faced hunters to earn their share of glory.

## Understanding bounty hunting

Bounty hunting on Mars isn't just about finding and fighting targets. It's an intricate dance of tracking, preparation and strategic thinking. The zones on Mars are massive, spanning distances as large as Rajasthan from east to west. Your quarry won't simply present themselves to you; you'll need to hunt them down carefully and methodically.

To begin your journey as a bounty hunter, you'll need to visit a player-owned or faction-controlled zone. Once there, using the `!bounty` command will assign you a random target. Each bounty comes with essential information:

* The target's name
* Their last known location
* The reward for their capture

For newcomers to the hunting scene, it's advisable to start with bounties priced under 200 coins, these targets tend to be more manageable while you learn the ropes.

> *Tip: Even the greatest hunters began with modest bounties. There's wisdom in starting small and working your way up.*

## Tracking your foe

The heart of bounty hunting lies in its unique tracking system. When you reach your target's zone, you'll rely on a D6 (six-sided die) roll to determine if you find them. Your chance of success can be significantly improved through various means:

* Wildpunk Magic at level 2 and having a Survivalist follower each reduce the die roll by two
* Wearing the Eye of Olympus helmet or having high Panache (level 3 or above) each reduce it by one

Your quarry will reveal themselves when the final roll reaches one.

## The hunt

The path to your target isn't always straightforward. During your search, you'll likely encounter other foes roaming the Martian landscape. These encounters can be handled in several ways: through combat, negotiation using the `!talk` command, or even fleeing in a vehicle (though be warned, persistent foes might give chase).

> *Note: Your prey is quite determined. They might cling to your vessel, steal transport, or even try to hunt YOU down first!*

The wise hunter knows the value of bribes (that can be acquired from shadow broker \[with specific follower] or the consignment market). Using the `!talk` command with a bribe ensures your next encounter will be with your intended target, making these valuable items worth their weight in gold.

## Advanced hunting knowledge

The politics of Mars create a complex web of targets. Each faction has their traditional enemies: QNX hunts PRV, LYC pursues MRT, while MRT has a broader range targeting LYC, PRV, and Outlaws. PRV focuses on QNX, and Outlaws, true to their nature, hunt anyone they can find.

Combat on Mars demands serious preparation. Some foes boast up to 16,384 HP, making them formidable opponents. Having a Bard follower in your party can provide crucial intelligence about enemy weapons and range. Before setting out, studying the terrain is essential - check for obstacles that might impede your progress, and ensure you're carrying enough coins for potential negotiations.

> *A seasoned hunter once said: "On Mars, it's not just about who you're hunting - it's about surviving long enough to collect the bounty."*

## Survival and recovery

Death on Mars isn't the end - hunters who fall in pursuit of their quarry will respawn at RSA Zone 55. For greater convenience, you can rent beds in player-owned zones to establish closer respawn points. The Martian terrain presents its own challenges: cliffs, summits, and peaks will block vehicle movement, and some areas require rope assets to traverse. Remember that your target may move between zones, so staying alert and adaptable is crucial.

***

Remember that bounty hunting is designed to be challenging. Success comes from combining game knowledge, tactical thinking, and skilled execution. This isn't a system that rewards luck or deep pockets - it's about preparation, strategy and making smart decisions in the field.

> *As they say in the dusty bars of Mars: "The easiest bounty is the one you prepared for, the hardest is the one you rushed into."*

Stay safe out there, hunters, and may your aim be true!
